Since when is using PyQT and the Python bindings to QGis not considered using Python ?!?!? This is actually pretty cool stuff if you ask me...

The renderer is written in Python. Using Python bindings. No SIP C++ bindings were created, changed, or harmed in making the renderer.
I don't understand how you can write something in Python and it not be Python. Perhaps if your post was more than one sentence it would have been more revealing...
